Former Black Queens coach Nora Hauptle guides Zambia to first win at 2024 WAFCON
Former head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Nora Hauptle, recorded her first win with the Copper Queens of Zambia at the 2024 Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Wednesday, guiding her side to beat Senegal 3-2. The highly-rated tactician handled her first-ever WAFCON match last Saturday when Zambia drew 2-2 with host nation Morocco in the opening match at this years tournament.Today, Coach Nora Hauptle and her Copper Queens set up strong, looking for victory to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the 2024 WAFCON.Unfortunately, for the Copper Queens, a slow start to the match against Senegal saw them trailing after just five minutes into the first half.A strike by prolific Senegal striker Nguenar Ndiaye handed the Teranga Lionesses an early lead.The setback propelled Zambia to up their game, resulting in a goal by poster girl Barbra Banda after she was set up by attacking partner Rachel Kundananji in the 12th minute.The first half ended 1-1 before Zambia and Senegal combined for three other goals in the second half.Goals from Rachel Kundananji and Barbra Banda in the 51st and 74th minutes, respectively, ensured that a penalty kick converted by Senegals Nguenar Ndiaye could not deny the Copper Queens their first three points at the tournament.At full time, Nora Hauptle celebrated her first win with Zambia at the 2024 WAFCON. She will now prepare her team for their last Group A game against DR Congo.
