Mrs. Cecelia Agyei Amoako, Proprietress of Hilltop International British School (HIBS), has dispelled the widespread notion that students who go through the Cambridge education system cannot further their studies at Ghanaian universities.
She clarified that students from the Cambridge system could attend any universities in Ghana, just as those who completed Ghana Education Service (GES) approved courses.
“Some people are under the impression that if you go through the Cambridge system, you must enroll as a fee-paying student at local universities, but that is not the case,” she stated in an interview with the media at the school’s 11th graduation ceremony.
The event saw the graduation of about 60 students from the primary to upper secondary levels.
It was marked by colourful cultural performances and choreography, with outstanding students at all levels receiving special awards for academic excellence.
The school also used the occasion to officially launch its TikTok account.
Mrs. Amoako also rejected the perception that the Cambridge system was reserved for the wealthy, stressing that it only required commitment, careful financial planning, and prioritisation by parents.
“If you decide this is the path you want for your child, then you must plan accordingly,” she emphasised.
While acknowledging that the system is relatively more expensive than the GES curriculum due to its resource-intensive nature, she maintained that it was achievable with determination and financial discipline.
Dr. Emmanuel Arthur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lancaster University, who served as Chairperson and Guest Speaker, commended the graduates for their academic accomplishments.
He announced a 30 per cent scholarship offer for any of the graduates who opted to pursue higher education at Lancaster University, as part of his personal commitment to supporting their academic journey.
Dr. Arthur urged parents to continue investing in their children’s education, stating, “A child without education is like a bird without wings.”
