Kumasi, Nov 7, GNA – The Ashanti Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has asked its members to ignore the directive by the National Executive Committee to go back to work. It insisted that the Committee had no mandate to review a decision taken by the National Executive Council of the Association. A press release signed by the Regional Chairperson, Madam Mercy B. Acheampong, in Kumasi on Wednesday, said the Council was the only body that could set aside its decisions. It maintained that the nationwide industrial action was decided on by the Council and that if that was to be reversed, it could only be done by that body. The regional association therefore found the directive unfortunate - not coming from the appropriate authority to be complied with. The release said although they were aware that the intervention by Civil Service Council to get the premium paid to them, it was their firm conviction that the right procedures must be followed. It said the strike action would continue until their demands were met. Meanwhile, members of the Association in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality had joined their colleagues across the country by withdrawing their services. Offices of the decentralized departments in the area were found locked up during a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday afternoon. Gonum (UE), Nov. 7, GNA-The World Vision on Monday commissioned a multi-purpose solar mechanized water system at Gonum in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region at the cost of 110,000 Ghana cedis. In addition, it had also drilled a mechanized borehole at Woligum also at the cost 10,000 Ghana cedis for the water poor communities where many children get to school very late because they have to commute for very long distances to find water for the home. The poor quality of water in the area has also predisposed most of the people to waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at separate functions in the two communities, Mr Samuel Diarra , Director of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene of World Vision in charge of West Africa, said the water system at Gonum had the capacity of supplying water to the entire community including the health facility and the Gonum Primary School all of which had been connected to the facility. “Apart from that the facility which had a lifespan above 25 years could be used for irrigation in the dry season and could improve upon the livelihoods of people in the area particularly women who could cultivate vegetables during that period”, Mr Diarra stressed. He said since 1985, World Vision had drilled about 3,000 mechanized boreholes in Ghana and also empowered some communities in the area of good hygiene and sanitation serving about one million people in the country. This, he noted, had contributed significantly to the reduction of water borne diseases such guinea worm in the Northern Regions and the Afram Plains. The National Director of World Vision Ghana , Mr Hubert Charles, said the of World Vision was particularly concerned about the vulnerable such as children and women and that was why his outfit had provided the facilities to alleviate the hardship of the less fortunate. The Senior Vice President of the International Programme Group of World Vision, Mr Kent Hill indicated that he was happy that the school children would no longer commute long distances to search for water which often led to lateness in school and appealed to the Chiefs and elders to own the facilities. Dzodze (V/R), Nov. 7, GNA – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, has said his free Senior High School (SHS) concept is implementable and advised Ghanaians to ignore its critics. “It takes a visionary leader to see light where others find darkness and I assure you my government will implement it come 2013”, he said. Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing a heavily attended NPP Volta Regional campaign rally on Tuesday at Dzodze. He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had in the past dismissed as unfeasible, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which the NPP did implement to address inequalities in society. Nana Akufo-Addo said with prudent management, elimination of wasteful expenditure and corruption such as the huge doubtful judgment debt payment, the country could foot the bill of the free SHS concept from kindergarten to the second cycle level and also enhance teacher conditions. He said the country could not wait for 20 years to implement the policy as the critics are suggesting. Nana Akufo-Addo introduced party’s parliamentary candidates in the region to the cheering crowd, urging the people to rally behind the NPP to truly uplift the region instead of the mere rhetoric from the “ungrateful NDC”. He said advancing industrialization, job creation and the strengthening of the weak cedi to enable businessmen and farmers make good returns would be the priority of his regime. Nana Akufo-Addo said Dzodze as a major ECOWAS transit hub would benefit from industries that his government would attract to the area. Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, former Volta Regional Minister, said he personally endorsed the protocols with the Togolese authorities in Lome for the construction of the Dzodze-Akanu highway just before exiting power but the current regime had assigned the glory to itself. He said contrary to the self-glorification posture of the NDC, it had nothing to show in the Ketu-North District and the region at large compared to the NPP. Other speakers included Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in the NPP regime and Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, the Party’s regional chairman. GNA...
Accra, Nov 7, GNA - Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Wednesday underscored the need for Ghanaians to be wary of promises of politicians and political parties to make Senior High School and housing free for people in low income groups. He said what the country needed was a balanced, practical and realistic approach to address the housing situation, and an overall improvement in the quality of life in the rural areas. The Vice President said the ruling government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) housing programme targets rural communities to stem rural-urban migration instead of putting up expensive houses that only politicians and elites and in society could afford in the cities. Vice President Amissah-Arthur threw the caution, when he interacted with journalists in Accra on his return from participating in the Institute of Economic Affairs debate for running mates of flagbearers of parties with representation in Parliament in Takoradi held on Tuesday evening. The statement was in reaction to the promise of largest Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP), to provide free housing for head porters and free Senior High School education. Vice President Amissah-Arhur, is also the running mate for President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the NDC in Ghana’s December 2012 elections. On the issue of inflation, the Vice President wondered why people were allowed to go scot free, when they churned out figures that were not true and realistic. “What the NPP is saying is only in the textbooks. In reality a lower inflationary rate does not mean automatic lower interest rate,” Vice President Amissah-Arthur said. On his general impression about the IEA debate in Takoradi, he said it went well and that his duty there was to be sincere and real and to tell Ghanaians what the NDC had been able to achieve so far, and the vision of the NDC, also based on real assessment, and to put up a strong case for the NDC so that Ghanaians renew its mandate for the next four years. Vice President Amissah-Arthur assured Ghanaians of the NDC Government to better the lives of all, adding that the Government had demonstrated commitment, transparency, dedication and selflessness in managing the affairs of the state. On education, the Vice President, said a free SHS needed a good foundation, which would provide quality education that starts from the basic level. “So we need to do it slowly, but carefully; so that we can also compete almost the best in the world,” he said Vice President Amissah-Arthur also asked Ghanaians to give the NDC a decisive mandate on December 7 to continue with the Better Ghana agenda. Accra, Nov. 7, GNA – Telesol Ghana Limited in partnership with MicroWorld, an advanced information security solutions developer, has introduced to the Ghanaian market one of the world’s most comprehensive and advanced anti-virus and content security solution called ‘eScan. ‘eScan, which has been embraced by many corporate organisations and government’s institutions in Ghana and across the globe, provides zero-day protection to computers from objectionable content and security threats such as Viruses, Spyware, Adware, Rootkits, Botnets, Spam and Phishing. Assistant Vice President, ‘eScan, Nazir Kazi speaking to journalists in Accra on Wednesday said with ‘eScan network administrators in organisations could now monitor and deplore a variety of security measures such as Anti-Malware and Anti-Spam updates, and licenses custom installing. He said it also allowed network system administrators to assign privileges to clients on access to the removable devices such as CD-ROM, and USB devices. They also can define applications that can be restricted on the client computers. “Security is not only about anti-virus. So MicroWorld has developed a unique technology called MWL (MicroWorld Win Sock Layer), which whenever ‘eSacn is installed on any window based platform all the data is scanned on the MWL technology – this scan for all emails, attachments, audio and video images, java script, websites." After everything is scanned, the action comes as delete, disinfect, and quarantine much before the data goes down to the data on the hard drive. “Because of this the system performance, CPA usage is less and there are no compatibility issue with the type of application being used.” Kazi said ‘e Scan enabled the system administrator to schedule scanning time because it has separate setting for schedule scanning option that helps to schedule automatic scans on the system at a preset time. It helps organise the schedule to check specific directory or local, hard disk and has an option for the scanning on the basis like once, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. In terms of data protection, ‘eSacn anti-virus scans the data stream of a file to detect hidden Malware which consists of all types of files including zipped and archived. "So the whole idea is to give restricted access to software and hardware in the work place to reduce security threats. We have incorporated all security related features in one product and in one price so with ‘eScan you can set different policy to different users; different employees to different departments to the network. For example for some employee you set a policy to use USB port and others not to,” Kazi said. “Our aim is to position ‘eScan properly in this market and to grow the channel business, train the channel and make sure that brand becomes very successful in the market," Telesol Ghana Limited Chief Executive Laide Temowo said. He added "'eScan is very affordable to consumers in Ghana and in Africa. With just about the GH¢ 30, a customer can have access to ‘eScan anti-virus”. Telesol is a full-service and training provider specialized in the distribution of telecommunication equipment and value added training to support end users. MicroWorld, incorporated in USA, has also introduced eScan Anti-Virus for Android operating system mobile phone and tablets, which Telesol will be promoting in Ghana as well. In 2009, MicroWorld became Microsoft Gold Certified Partner with its eScan product winning several AV-Comparatives and VB100% awards that same year after passing several rigorous tests and certifications by reputed independent evaluators of the security industry.
