Greater Accra Inter Districts Games launched
Accra, Nov. 7, GNA – The National Sports Authority (NSA), Greater Accra Region, has launched the 7th Regional Coordinating Council Inter Districts Sports Festival.
The festival, scheduled for the Ada Senior High School, in the Dangbe East District, will be under the theme “Peace and Unity through sports for a Better Ghana”, between Wednesday, November 7, to Saturday, November 10.
Kwame Amponfi Jr, Regional Sports Director of the NSA, who disclosed this to the media, on Wednesday said, an estimated total number of 800 athletes and officials will participate in the four-day event.
Each of the ten Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) is expected to register 155 athletes and officials for the event.
According to Amponfi Jr, participants will compete for honours in seven disciplines; Football, Volleyball, handball, Netball, Athletics, and Table Tennis.
He said the festival will serve as a platform for unearthing new sports talents and groom them to form the nucleus of the regional team for the next National Unity Games and other competitions.
Amponfi Jr, said, though the event which will be under the sponsorship of the Greater Accra Coordinating Council, each of the ten MMDA will pay a participation fee of 2,000ghc in addition to funding their respective contingents.
The event is expected to attract, Chief Executives of the ten participating MMDA’s together with their Sports Directors, as well as members of parliament, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Alex Tettey Enyo, Member of Parliament for Ada, Alfred Abayateye Member of Parliament for Sege and Alice Attipoe, Ag. Director General of the NSA.
