Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says he is managing his squad carefully to prevent player fatigue as the Porcupine Warriors continue to juggle their Ghana Premier League campaign with continental duties in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s league fixture against Nations FC at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Zito described the challenge of maintaining performance levels across both competitions as a “balancing act.”
The coach said his experience with Dreams FC last season â when the team nearly suffered relegation while chasing continental glory â has shaped his current approach.
“I’m trying to economize some of the players,” Zito explained. “I’ve had an experience from Dreams FC chasing Africa and playing in the league â we nearly got relegated. So I’m using that to improve upon what I did there that wasn’t right and do it better here.”
Zito added that squad rotation remains central to his plans as he prepares for a demanding schedule.
“Some players will play, some won’t play. Luckily for me, I have about two or three players per position. If I go with one set, I will have a problem.”
Kotoko are set to host Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie on October 19 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
