
The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, Esq, has been appointed as a Member of the FIFA Legal Committee, marking a significant recognition of his legal expertise, leadership and contribution to football administration and governance.
His appointment, which aligns with the relevant provisions of the FIFA Statutes and FIFA Governance Regulations, will see him serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.
The FIFA Legal Committee is one of FIFA’s most important standing committees, tasked with advising and assisting the FIFA Council on legal and regulatory matters, including the interpretation of statutes, governance frameworks, and compliance mechanisms that underpin the global game. The Committee is chaired by Elvis Chetty of Seychelles, with Michael Llamas of Gibraltar serving as Deputy Chairperson.
Mr. Addo’s appointment follows years of dedicated service and recognition at both the national and international levels. He was part of the FIFA team that developed the FIFA General Secretaries Handbook and also contributed to the FIFA Clearing House Regulations, initiatives that have become essential components of FIFA’s global administrative and governance reforms.
A lawyer with over 24 years of experience, Prosper Harrison Addo brings a wealth of legal, regulatory, and administrative expertise to the world football governing body. Before assuming his current role as General Secretary of the GFA in 2020, he served as Senior Manager, Compliance at Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), where he also previously held the position of Manager, Commercial Legal.
Mr. Addo holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Law and Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon, and an MBA from the Salford Business School, University of Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom. In addition, he holds several professional certificates in law, governance, and football administration, further highlighting his commitment to professional development.
Within Ghanaian football, Mr. Addo has held numerous influential positions over the years, including Chairman of the GFA Disciplinary Committee (Greater Accra Region), Chairman of the GFA National Disciplinary Committee, member of the FA Cup Committee, and member of the GFA Legal Committee. His extensive experience in football governance and legal administration has earned him widespread respect among his peers and within the broader football community.
Beyond football, Mr. Addo continues to contribute to the media and communications space. He is an active member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and an associate member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana.
Mr. Addo’s appointment to the FIFA Legal Committee represents not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Ghanaian football, reflecting the growing influence of Ghanaian professionals in global football governance and leadership.
