General Manager of Swedru All Blacks United FC and Executive Council (EXCO) member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Eugene Nobel Noel, has declared his support for the proposed amendment to extend the GFA presidential term limit from two to three terms. The proposal, which has generated significant backing from the football clubs, seeks to amend the GFA statutes to allow a sitting president to serve up to three four-year terms, aligning with the term limits of other EXCO members, including the Vice-President. Speaking to GHANAsoccernet.com from Agona Swedru, Nobel Noel described the proposal as not only justified but also constitutionally sound. “It is constitutionally proper to increase the term limit to three,” he asserted. “There is no sense in Executive Council members, including the Vice-President, serving three terms while the President, who is the most important official and also a member of the Executive Council, is limited to two.” Nobel Noel emphasized the importance of consistency and fairness in leadership tenures within the GFA’s governance structure, pointing out the anomaly of the current arrangement which he believes undermines the authority of the President relative to other council members. He further revealed that his club, Swedru All Blacks, along with the majority of GFA members, are firmly in support of the proposed changes and will vote accordingly when the motion is tabled. “All Blacks and a majority of members are in complete favour of the proposed amendment and we’ll vote to make the changes,” he affirmed. “The Association belongs to its members, and we will make our own decisions in the best interest of our investments.” The proposal to amend the presidential term limit is expected to be a key item at the next GFA Congress, where member clubs will deliberate and vote on its adoption. Supporters of the amendment argue that the extension allows for continuity in leadership, stability in policy implementation and a more level playing field for all Executive Council members.
