As the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential flagbearer race intensifies, a growing chorus of delegates in the Ashanti Region is advancing a strong case for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, insisting that his selection would significantly increase Ashanti Region votes and enhance the party’s fortunes in the 2028 general election.
Their argument is anchored in the Ashanti Region’s central role in determining national election outcomes, as well as Dr. Adutwum’s deep-rooted influence and longstanding ties to the area.

According to the delegates, choosing Dr. Adutwum as the party’s flagbearer would not only galvanise massive support from voters, but also re-energise the party’s grassroots structures. They believe his home-region appeal offers a natural electoral advantage capable of reigniting enthusiasm among the base.
Many of them also point to the voter apathy recorded in the region during the 2024 polls and argued that his candidacy presents the clearest opportunity to reverse that trend.
In their view, Dr. Adutwum’s presence on the ballot could restore the NPP’s historic strength in the Ashanti Region and set the stage for a more decisive national performance in 2028.
Delegates emphasise that as a native of the region, Dr. Adutwum possesses a unique pull that could translate into record-breaking voter turnout.
They reference historical outcomes to bolster their claim, recalling how former President John Agyekum Kufuor secured close to 80 percent of Ashanti votes during his bid, an outcome they attribute in part to his Ashanti heritage.
To them, Dr. Adutwum is the candidate most capable of replicating such electoral dominance, giving the NPP an early and formidable boost heading into the national contest.
During Dr. Adutwum’s ongoing campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, several delegates openly described their support for him as a strategic calculation based on electoral data, not sentiment. They maintain that his candidacy would fortify the party’s stronghold, energise the grassroots, and attract floating voters impressed by his record and regional connection.
Beyond regional considerations, the delegates also outline Dr. Adutwum’s achievements in the education sector as a major selling point. They highlight his leadership in championing STEM reforms, the establishment of modern STEM schools, and his data-driven approach to improving learning outcomes as evidence of his capacity for effective governance.
To many, his combination of technical expertise and personable leadership style presents the NPP with a fresh, credible, and highly marketable candidate, one capable of appealing both to loyal party supporters and the broader Ghanaian electorate.
They argue that Dr. Adutwum’s personal journey from modest beginnings in Bosomtwe to becoming a respected educator in the United States and later a reform-oriented Minister of Education resonates with voters who appreciate leaders with relatable life stories and a demonstrable record of service.
With the NPP’s presidential primary drawing closer, these delegates insist that the party must make a strategic choice that reflects Ghana’s evolving political landscape.
And in their view, Dr. Adutwum stands out as the contender whose regional strength, national appeal, and visionary leadership offer the best chance of securing victory in 2028.
