Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, says the club is working with FIFA to clear the debt owed to former technical director, René Hiddink, even as the matter shifts into the Ghanaian courts.
René Hiddink, who signed a three-year contract with the club in 2023, exited just eight months into his tenure.
His departure came after the club terminated his deal without paying the full compensation due, leading him to lodge a complaint with FIFA.
The Phobians are currently serving a transfer ban after failing to settle the outstanding $150,000 owed to the Dutch coach. The club can only resume player recruitment once the debt is fully paid.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Opare Addo disclosed that René Hiddink has now escalated the issue locally, but insisted the club remains committed to fulfilling FIFA’s directives.
“René Hiddink has taken our debt case to a Ghanaian court despite the FIFA ruling, but Hearts of Oak is complying with FIFA directives to settle the outstanding debt owed to him,” he said.
“Hearts of Oak aren’t reluctant to settle our debt with René Hiddink,” Opare Addo added.
Hearts of Oak continue to navigate a difficult start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign, sitting sixth on the table with 18 points from 11 matches.
