The Bonoman Institute has observed that to ensure economic development of the Bono and Bono East Regions, there is the urgent need for actions that promote enterprise and business development.
This, according to the institute, will position the regions for trade and other economic activities to boost in order to bring about development of the people.
The institute therefore called on chiefs in the regions to lead in this regard by liaising with politicians and most importantly their natives who have risen in business to achieve this important feat.
This was contained in a new year statement copied to The Chronicle in Sunyani and signed by the Founder and Director of Affairs of the institute, Mr Francis Ansu Gyabaah and Mr. Atta Akoto Snr, an Executive Director for Operations. According to the Bonoman institute revisiting the Bonokyempem council is another means that can be used to ensure coordination in the growth and development of the regions. The statement suggested that “The Bonokyempem council should not be replaced by the Regional House of Chiefs but rather further modified to meet our contemporary developmental and traditional needs”.
The statement called on the people of the Bono regions to stand up to make a difference. “The people of the Bono Regions are being admonished to come out of their shells to defy all odds to make a difference.
It further observed that many people from the regions have made significant impacts and it is now time for them to raise the flag of the Bono regions.
“There are examples of several others that have evolved from the Bono Regions to make huge strides. The time to come out in numbers to do exploit is now, there is no other time”, the statement said.
Twi Dialect
The statement noted that the development of the Bono Twi dialect is also an important tool to enhance the development of the regions.
“The Development of the Bono Twi dialect is yet another important element that is required to bring about the needed development and identity of the people of the Bono Regions; this, the Bonoman Institute through the Bono Twi Project is going to implement to enhance the development of the regions”, the statement said.
The institute further said there is the need to protect the natural resources of the regions from unscrupulous people who only think about their selfish interests.
“There is the need for the protection of our natural resources from unscrupulous people who selfishly steal or find ways to own them should be a matter of grave concern to us”, the statement said.
The Bonoman Institute called on chiefs in the regions to collaborate with the state institutions and international community address rising regional conflicts to ensure peace for development.
“Cross regional conflicts with other chiefs in Ghana is an emerging issue that has to be addressed for the sake of peace and tranquillity in our contemporary Ghana. This we plead the chiefs work with all needed institutions of state and the international community”, the statement said.
The institute also appealed to the national security and government to address the numerous chieftaincy disputes which is potentially drawing the Bono regions back in development.
“Escalating issues related to chieftaincy issues particularly throughsome chiefs is what we plead with the national security and the government in general for the sake of posterity and development in the Bono Regions to objectively address. It has the potential to draw these regions back in development”, the statement said.
The institute emphasised that intra chieftaincy discord is another traitor of progress in the region regions. It said, “The many unsolved disputes within some traditional authorities is one of the agents that push our development far behind”, adding that “Suspicious environment lacks the right energy to have the needed cohesion for development as a group of people”.
Industrialization
The institute called for concerted efforts by chiefs to industrialize the region to enhance employment and improve the living conditions of the people.
It also said chiefs in the region should ensure that the region’s agricultural capacity is harnessed through an enhanced value chain to improve the economic values of farmers and the youths.
“There should be conscious efforts led by the chiefs of the Bono Regions to industrialize the regions. This will certainly enhance employment promotion as well as harness the region’s agricultural capacity through an enhanced value chain to improve the economic values of the people, particularly farmers and the youths”, the statement said.
The Bonoman Institute expressed concern about armed robberies on highways and cattle herdsmen attack on farmers which requite urgent attention.
“Arm robbery on the highways and cattle herdsmen attacks on farmers as well as the use of their cattle to destroy others farms has to be dealt with as emergency issues”, the institute said.
The statement said the Bonoman Institute has come to stay and shall endeavour to work with all stakeholders towards the development of the regions and its people.
“We shall strive to solicit and harness the potentials of our human resources within Ghana and beyond our shores to consciously bring development to the people of the Bono Regions to affect Ghana as a whole”, the institute said and gave assurance our its utmost commitment and sacrifice towards the realization of its objective to redeem and promote the image, development and wellbeing of the Bono people within and beyond the shores of Ghana.
