Ghanaian attacker Christopher Antwi-Adjei shared his disappointment on Sunday after suffering racial abuse during the DFB Pokal match between FC Lokomotive Leipzig and his side, Schalke 04.
The incident occurred in the 13th minute when Antwi-Adjei went to the touchline to take a throw-in when words were shouted that have no place on a football pitch or anywhere else.
After Antwi-Adjei raised the issue, the referee stopped the match so the home club could make a stadium announcement.
Instead, sections of the home crowd booed Antwi-Adjei with every touch until the final whistle.
Speaking to Bild after the match, Christopher Antwi-Adjei said what happened was very disappointing.
"I didn't hear any nice words. They were racist insults, which have no place here at any time. 'Fucking nigger' was called. I stayed cool, calm, and signalled to the linesman what had happened.
"You don't have to tolerate everything, especially when you're on the football pitch and representing your club. That has no place here. It's very disappointing. We've advanced. That's what counts, or rather, should count,” he said.
Reports in Germany indicates that the racial abuse incident was reported to the police and an investigation is underway to identify the fan.
