Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani says his side will take key lessons from their penalty shootout defeat to Bibiani GoldStars in the GHALCA Top 4 competition.
The Phobians came from behind to draw 2-2 in regulation time but eventually lost 5-4 on spot-kicks on Friday evening at University of Ghana Stadium.
“It’s not a bad day. Losing is part of it and we’ve learned a lot from it. Those are the good points we take from here,” Dramani said in his post-match remarks.
GoldStars seized the initiative early after Raphael Amponsah conceded a penalty in the 18th minute, which Samuel Atta Kumi converted. Atta Kumi struck again in the 34th minute, punishing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s failure to deal with a strike from Sampson Eduku.
Hearts responded just before halftime when Martin Karikari produced a fine run before laying the ball off for George Paaku to reduce the deficit.
Moments into the restart, Karikari again proved influential, setting up Mohammed Hussein to level the score at 2-2.
With no extra time played under tournament rules, the tie went to penalties. Vincent Atingah delivered the decisive effort to seal GoldStars’ win, moving them to five points, while Hearts sit second with four.
