Brandon Thomas-Asante lit up the Coventry Building Society Arena with a fine display as Coventry City cruised past rivals Birmingham City in the Championship.
The Ghanaian winger struck early in the 16th minute, pouncing inside the box to lift home the opener, sparking huge celebrations among the home crowd.
His energy and sharp runs stretched Birmingham’s defence throughout his 81 minutes on the pitch, a performance that delighted the Sky Blues fans. Birmingham’s troubles deepened when Jack Robinson received a second yellow card in the 42nd minute, leaving the visitors to fight with ten men.
Coventry made their advantage count after the break. A cross turned into his own net by Bright Osayi-Samuel doubled the lead in the 49th minute, before Victor Torp calmly slotted in a third late on to seal the win.
Coventry controlled possession and created chances with ease, while Birmingham rarely threatened. For Thomas-Asante, it was a statement outing that underlined his growing influence in the team.
Next up, Coventry travel to Millwall on October 1 as momentum builds in their campaign.
