The German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull has called on the Mayor of Kumasi during his first visit last Tuesday, since he assumed office as the German Ambassador to Ghana in July, 2021.
The visit was occasioned by the realisation that a partnership agreement existed between the City of Dortmund in Germany and Kumasi in Ghana, which needed to be strengthened, hence his decision to meet the Mayor of Kumasi to discuss ways to strengthen it.
The Ambassador also indicated that he wanted to learn more about Kumasi and its socio-economic potentials, which the City of Dortmund stands to benefit from, under the partnership to seal the City of Dortmund -City of Kumasi partnership.
Sam Pyne, receiving the German delegation to Kumasi, applauded the Ambassador and his entourage for the visit, which he described as important. He was hopeful the official partnership would bring mutual benefits to the two cities, in the areas of education, health, agriculture, tourism and culture.
He said the KMA, looking at the volume of waste generated daily in Kumasi, especially in the Central Business District and its effect on the environment, has bought into the concept of Climate Change and Greening Kumasi, in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies.
The Mayor of Kumasi called for partnership between the Kumasi Technical University and German Universities for effective collaboration in knowledge sharing.
Mr. Pyne assured the German Ambassador of his maximum cooperation to ensure the success of the partnership and the sister-city relationship.
The German envoy was accompanied by Mr. Lutz Lienenkamper, a German State MP and former Finance Minister for North-Rhine Westphalia; Mr. Volkmar Klein, a German MP and a member of the Economic Cooperation and Development for German Parliament (Bundestag) and Prof. Ralph Nyadu-Addo, a former Head of the Department of Publishing Studies-KNUST
Ambassador Daniel Krull and his entourage had earlier visited some alumni of KNUST who had studied in Germany, before meeting the Kumasi Mayor.
The German Ambassador had also visited the KCCR, Adonko Factory and Suame Magazine, where the German government was supporting some artisans in various skills.
