Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has spoken about his ongoing adaptation to La Liga life after completing a move to Villarreal, five years after his high-profile transfer to Arsenal.
The 32-year-old made the comments following Villarreal’s 2-0 away defeat to his former club, Atlético Madrid, on September 13, 2025.
Partey, who started and lasted 62 minutes at the Metropolitano Stadium, acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a new team and league but remained optimistic about finding his rhythm.
“I’m now getting back [to adapting to La Liga]. It is a different team, the style of play is different, and I think with time I’ll get used to it and I’ll be able to enjoy more,” Partey told Sporty TV in a post-match interview.
The match saw goals from Pablo Barrios and Nico González secure all three points for Diego Simeone’s side, handing Villarreal their first loss of the season. Partey, familiar with the demands of Spanish football from his previous spell at Atlético, brings a wealth of experience and tactical intelligence to a Villarreal side looking to compete in the top half of the table.
Having also enjoyed a successful period in the Premier League with Arsenal, Partey’s return to Spain marks a new chapter in his careerâone that both club and player hope will see him return to his influential best as the season progresses.
