England-born Ghanaian defender Jarrel Quansah was on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Bayer Leverkusen from a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga opener
Quansah, who joined the Bundesliga outfit in the current transfer window started and played full throttle of the match as Leverkusen succumbed to defeat on home turf.
The former Bundesliga champions threw away their one-goal lead as the club fell short to Hoffenheim in a high-stake clash held at the BayArena on Saturday.
The 22-year-old, who started in defense in a three-back system headed home the opening goal after just six minutes into the match. In the 25th-minute mark, the visitors pulled parity through Fisnik Asllani as they both teams went to the halftime break with a scoring draw.
Putting on a stellar performance, Hoffenheim found the back of the net to extend their lead in the match through Tim Lemperle, and with no additional goal, the visitors cruised to victory to merit the three maximum points.
Having started his Leverkusen journey on a good note despite the defeat, Quansah will be hoping to maintain his form throughout the season.
After nearly 17 years at Anfield, Quansah closed his Liverpool chapter to join Erik ten Hag’s Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £35 million.
