2024 WAFCON: Ghana bottom of Group C after first round of group games
The Black Queens of Ghana find themselves bottom of Group C at the end of the first round of group matches at the 2024 CAF Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).The Queens kicked off their campaign at the tournament being staged in Morocco with a tough encounter against South Africa on Monday.In the clash against the defending champions, the Black Queens put up a good fight but suffered a 2-0 defeat at the end of the contest.The other Group C match of the day featured Mali and Tanzania as the national teams of the two countries exhibited good football.Eventually, Mali managed to secure all three points thanks to a 1-0 win at full-time.After the two games, South Africa jumped to the summit of the Group C standings with three points, only above Mali, also on three points, with a superior goal difference.Tanzania follows in third in the table while the Black Queens of Ghana sit bottom of the pack.The Black Queens must now regroup and prepare for their next match against Mali on Friday, July 11.The Queens will need to win that game to improve their chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament.
