Ghana Link Network Services Ltd, operators of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), has assured stakeholders in the shipping, logistics, and transport sectors that no data was lost following a temporary system interruption on October 23, 2024.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company confirmed that all attached documents and historical records from 2020 to 2024 remain intact.
“Some users may have experienced temporary access issues due to a scheduled system optimization, but all data is securely stored and remains retrievable,” Ghana Link said.
The company’s response follows concerns raised by The Transport Forum Ghana LBG regarding the impact of the system interruption on trade and customs operations.
Ghana Link explained that the event was a scheduled system upgrade rather than a failure or deliberate shutdown.
“The October 23, 2024, system event was not a failure or deliberate shutdown. Instead, it was a brief service interruption caused by a planned upgrade of storage infrastructure to improve system performance, data security, and storage efficiency,” a portion of the statement read.
This comes as digital infrastructure plays an increasingly central role in the nation’s trade sector, where system stability and data security remain critical for smooth business operations.
The upgrade, according to Ghana Link, was necessary to enhance the reliability and efficiency of ICUMS, the digital platform that facilitates customs processing and trade clearance in the country. The system was restored within a short period, allowing operations to resume as expected.
Ghana Link further reaffirmed its compliance with data protection regulations, stating that at no point was data confidentiality compromised.
“Ghana Link upholds the highest data protection and security standards, ensuring full compliance with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). At no point has there been any breach of data confidentiality,” the ICUMS operator said.
Addressing concerns from freight forwarders and businesses, the company assured that trade records, customs entries, and attached documents remain accessible. It encouraged users experiencing retrieval issues to contact the ICUMS Support Team via phone or email.
“Any users experiencing difficulties retrieving their files are encouraged to reach out to the ICUMS Support Team,” Ghana Link stated.
The company also reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure and efficient trade facilitation system in partnership with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division.
“Ghana Link and the GRA Customs Division remain committed to delivering a robust, secure, and efficient trade facilitation system. We will continue to engage stakeholders and ensure seamless operations within Ghana’s trade and customs ecosystem,” the statement further read.
