– Kwabena Agyepong
Mrs. Comfort Agyepong was the widow of the late Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, one of the three High Court judges and a retired army officer who were abducted and murdered on June 30, 1981, during the early days of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military regime.
Justice Agyepong, alongside Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow and Justice Frederick Poku Sarkodee, was assassinated in one of Ghana’s most infamous political killings, orchestrated under the rule of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. Their brutal murder sent shockwaves across the country and remains a painful chapter in Ghana’s history.
Mrs. Comfort Agyepong endured the devastating loss of her husband and bravely carried the burden of raising their children, including Kwabena Agyepong, who later emerged as a notable political figure and presidential spokesperson under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Described by her son as a pillar of strength, love, and resilience, Mrs. Comfort Agyepong dedicated her life to family, faith, and community service. She played a crucial role in shaping the life of Kwabena Agyepong, who has often spoken about the profound impact his mother had on his values and principles.
Her passing marks the end of an era for the Agyepong family, but her legacy remains firmly embedded in the history of Ghana.
Kwabena Agyepong has indicated that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
