The Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup marked the return of competitive football following the passing of Nana Pooley, and it delivered some stunning upsets.
Several Premier League clubs found themselves on the losing end against lower-tier opposition.
Hearts of Oak, last crowned FA Cup champions in 2022, faced Division One side Golden Kick. Despite their inconsistent form this season, the Phobians were expected to advance. However, after a goalless 90 minutes, the match was decided by penalties. Hearts missed twice in the shootout, ultimately falling 4-3 and crashing out of the tournament.
Defending Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC, two-time FA Cup winners, also suffered a similar fate. They were held to a 1-1 draw by PAC Academy before losing in a penalty shootout. Bibiani Gold Stars endured the same disappointment, exiting the competition after a loss to Attram De Visser.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko’s fixture against Eleven Wise has been postponed, as the Porcupines are yet to resume competitive action.
