The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reiterated government’s unwavering commitment to developing Ghana’s agribusiness sector and promoting value addition to agricultural exports to boost national revenue generation.
The three-day event, organised by Fairtrade Messe in collaboration with ACE Group and Geovision, unites global leaders in the industry, innovators, and policymakers who are influencing the future of the agro-food and plastics sectors through technology, sustainability, and innovation.
This year’s exhibition features 15 exhibitors from 15 countries, including China, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, India, Kenya, Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th Agri-Food and PlastPrint-Pack Ghana Fair in Accra, Mrs Ofosu-Adjare disclosed that a new agribusiness policy was being developed to enhance productivity, improve coordination, and support the development of innovative agricultural products.
She emphasised that the government recognised the immense potential of agribusiness to create sustainable jobs, improve food security, and enhance export competitiveness.
“We are focusing on partnerships and innovation to improve food preservation, processing, and packaging, as well as ensure that Ghanaian agricultural products meet international standards,” she stated.
The German Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Frederik Landshoft, praised Ghana’s resilience, innovation, and leadership in sustainability. He highlighted the country’s impressive 35 per cent growth in the food sector and its pivotal role in driving regional cooperation and industrial transformation.
“Ghana is not just open for business; Ghana is shaping the business of tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Landshoft reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to long-term partnerships with Ghana, particularly in climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, and circular economy solutions.
The CEO of the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Mr Anthony Morrison, commended the success of the EU-Ghana Agriculture Programme in developing value chains for cashew, mango, rice, and soybeans.
He lauded the EU’s holistic approach that links trade, infrastructure, and innovation, stressing the importance of protecting intellectual property in agribusiness.
“To strengthen competitiveness and attract greater investment across Africa, agribusinesses must safeguard their innovations through patents, trademarks, and geographical indications,” Mr Morrison advised.
The Managing Director of Fairtrade Messe GmbH & Co. KG, Mr Paul Maerz, described Ghana as a rising regional hub for agro-industrial excellence.
He noted that innovation in food preservation, sustainable packaging and digital farming was key to Africa’s agro-industrial transformation.
Mr Maerz commended exhibitors and partners for their collaboration and reaffirmed Fairtrade Messe’s support for Ghana’s industrial agenda.
“The strong trade growth and expanding consumer market in Ghana are clear evidence of the country’s leadership in driving sustainable industrial growth across West Africa,” he said.
The Agri-Food and PlastPrint-Pack Ghana Fair continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering partnerships, promoting innovation, and advancing Ghana’s vision of a sustainable, technology-driven agricultural economy.
