Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah delivered a match-winning performance to earn the Man of the Match award in their hard-fought victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Saturday.
The Porcupine Warriors opened their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign with a spirited display, breaking a 15-year winless streak against Chelsea.
After a cagey first half that ended goalless, Kotoko found the breakthrough in the 80th minute when Hubert Gyau’s incisive pass from midfield picked out Amoah’s well-timed run.
The former Great Olympics forward made no mistake, calmly slotting home the decisive goal.
Kotoko defended resolutely in the closing stages to secure all three points, a result that not only lifted spirits in Kumasi but also serves as a timely boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup showdown with Nigeria’s Kwara United next weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.
