Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schaefer has pledged to closely monitor the Ghana Premier League as part of efforts to inspire clubs and players in the domestic competition.
The German trainer gave the assurance after visiting Hearts of Oak’s training grounds ahead of their goalless draw with league debutants Hohoe United on Friday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking to the Ghana FA website, Schaefer highlighted the importance of creating equal opportunities for local talents.
"We have many top players playing in Europe, but our goalkeeper is a local and was fantastic on Monday. I want to visit the clubs and use him as a role model. All players have a chance to play for the Black Stars team."
Schaefer stressed that he would be attending league matches to keep track of promising players while boosting morale across the competition.
"It's great motivation for everyone. I'll be watching the games too. Most African players who play in Europe come from Ghana, and we must be the heart of African football again," the German added.
The opening round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League continues across the country this weekend, with fixtures scheduled for Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14.
Schaefer has been the Technical Advisor of the senior national team since January. His role includes providing technical guidance, overseeing football development in Ghana, and collaborating with the Technical Directorate to develop a long-term strategic plan for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
