Reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars launched their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign in style, defeating Bechem United 2-1 in front of a jubilant home crowd at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
Returning to the venue where they secured their historic first league crown last season, the Miners wasted no time in asserting themselves. Captain Samuel Atta Kumi converted a penalty in the third minute to put the hosts ahead, before doubling his tally in the 22nd minute with a composed finish to make it 2-0.
Bechem, however, responded almost immediately. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Dalvin Yeboah to reduce the deficit just a minute later, setting up a lively contest for the remainder of the game.
Both teams traded attacking exchanges, but neither side could find the net again. Gold Stars registered 12 shots in total, with three on target producing two goals, while Bechem managed only two shots on target all game.
The champions will now shift focus to continental duty as they prepare to travel to Algeria for their CAF Champions League tie against JS Kabylie. Bechem United, meanwhile, will look to bounce back when they face Basake Holy Stars in their next league fixture.
