The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation convened its Quarter Four (Q4) Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Review Meeting, bringing together over 200 WATSAN Committee members from 22 host communities across the Tarkwa and Damang mines.
The meeting, held at the Akoon Club House, provided a platform to reflect on 2025 achievements, enhance collaboration among community stakeholders, and chart key priorities for water and sanitation management in 2026.The annual review aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 on health and well-being, SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation, SDG 11 on sustainable communities, SDG 13 on climate action, and SDG 17 on partnerships.
In observance of World Prostate Cancer Day, Dr. Nathaniel Korsah of Euracare Hospital led an awareness session on early detection, preventive health practices, and community well-being—reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to improving health outcomes in its host communities.
Officials from the Tarkwa-Nsuaem (TNMA) and Prestea/Huni-Valley Municipal Assemblies (PHMA) were present, offering guidance on community sanitation standards and regulatory compliance.
Throughout 2025, the WATSAN Committees, supported by the Foundation and its partners, successfully carried out a range of initiatives, including World Water Day, World Cleanup Day, World Malaria Day celebrations, and the training of selected committee members as Area Mechanics, facilitated by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA). Additionally, a 40,000 Small-Town Water Supply System (STWSS) project was completed and handed over to communities including Huniso, Badukrom, and Fiaseman Senior High School, with other projects still underway.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Foundation, in partnership with TNMA and PHMA, outlined key priorities: expanding typhoid awareness campaigns, strengthening collaboration with district assemblies for water system monitoring, and intensifying routine inspections of community WATSAN facilities.
Participants also pledged to complete ongoing projects, hold quarterly review meetings, encourage community participation in World Clean-up Day activities, and promote regular communal labour to maintain cleaner, safer environments.
Through these efforts, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation continues to foster healthier, more resilient communities while reinforcing its commitment to sustainable water and sanitation management.
