Chelsea are keeping the door open for a potential January swoop for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, despite strong competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Reports indicate the Blues are fully aware of the Ghana international’s £65 million release clause, and although they are not currently regarded as favourites, they remain interested in triggering the clause once the winter transfer window opens.
Semenyo, 25, has been in impressive form for the Cherries this season. He has already scored six Premier League goals and become a key figure under manager Andoni Iraola. His direct style, work rate and ability to influence games in the final third have made him one of the league’s standout performers in the early part of the campaign.
Chelsea already possess significant depth in attacking positions, but the club’s recruitment team continues to search for opportunities to strengthen their options and secure emerging Premier League talent.
Speaking on the situation, journalist Mark Ogden said Chelsea may not be leading the race, but they remain a club to watch.
“Now, they are pretty overloaded with forwards, but I wouldn’t rule out Chelsea moving for a forward,” Ogden said. “I wouldn’t rule them out of the Antoine Semenyo situation. He’s got a £65 million release clause at Bournemouth.”
Ogden added that Manchester City and Liverpool currently appear more advanced in their pursuit.
“I don’t think Chelsea are the frontrunners, I think you’re looking at Man City and Liverpool, but Chelsea know a deal can be done and they could get it done,” he stated.
