Ghana coach Otto Addo has set surviving the group stage as the Black Stars’ immediate target at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo, who also led Ghana at the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where the team exited at the group stage, spoke to Sporty FM following Ghana’s 1-0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium that sealed their qualification for next year’s tournament.
"So, like I said, I always take it step by step. I always look to the next possible aim, and this is to survive the group stage," Addo said. "Surely, we have to see which group we’re in. Ghana is currently ranked very low, so we will get strong opponents, but I know we have the quality to beat any team. Once we get into the knockout stage, anything can happen, and everything is possible."
Next year’s World Cup will be Ghana’s fifth appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. Their best finish remains the quarterfinals at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
