Ghana legend Abedi Pele has eulogized his son, Jordan Ayew after spearheading the Black Stars fifth World Cup qualification.
The Leicester City attacker becomes the second son of the Ghanaian football legend to charge of Black Stars World Cup qualification after Andre Ayew, who led the team to the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Ayew, the son of Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele enjoyed an amazing qualifying campaign with the Black Stars, scoring seven goals and delivering seven assists throughout the qualifiers. His consistency and leadership played a pivotal role in the Black Stars qualification.
The former Marseille star was in action when the Black Stars inflicted a narrow win over Comoros to finish the qualification series on a high note. Tottenham Hotspur star Mohammed Kudus’s goal in the ssce4ond half was enough to secure Ghana victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ayew is set for his third World Cup appearance, having previously featured at the 2014 and 2022 tournament respectively.
This time, the experienced forward is set to lead the Black Stars at the World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico, emulating his senior brother Andre Ayew, who led the team to the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar, where Ghana bowed out at Group stage.
“You will forever be remembered. You did it as planned so” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Having represented Ghana at multiple international tournaments including World Cup and several Africa Cup of Nations campaigns, Ayew’s wealth of experience will be vital heading into the upcoming World Cup tournament.
Ghana finished on top of Group I, accumulating 25 points from 10 matches, with Madagascar finishing second with 19 points, while Mali finished third spot with 18 points.
Additionally, Comoros placed fourth with 15 points, where Central African Republic finished fifth on the table with 8 points. Chad emerged as the weakest team in Group I, securing just a point in 10 matches.
The 34-year-old has racked up 32 goals for the Black Stars in 114 appearances since marking his debut in 2010.
