Member of Parliament for Ketu North and chairman of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has ignited debate with his comments on player selection for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Agbana, appointed chairman of the Elite U-19 Championship in September 2025, has become a prominent advocate for accountability and integrity in Ghanaian football. In his latest remarks, he questioned the commitment of players who declined national team invitations during the World Cup qualifying campaign.
His comments come amid reports that Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah could soon switch allegiance to represent Ghana. Both players, eligible for England and Ghana, previously showed limited interest in joining the Black Stars despite repeated approaches from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
“If you ask me, those who refused call-ups before the qualification have not shown enough loyalty to the country,” Agbana said. “They must not be included.”
Agbana’s position adds to the ongoing national conversation about balancing talent and patriotism in team selection.
