Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has praised the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team, describing their historic World University Football Championship triumph as a shining example of Ghana’s potential on the global stage.
Speaking at the Kotoka International Airport, where the team was received to a jubilant welcome after returning from China, Adams commended the players and officials for their exceptional achievement.
"I want to welcome you back home. Celebrate because you have done something great. Something no African university, no Ghanaian university has ever done.
"Your victory has only come to cement what Ghana is capable of doing," he told the players.
UDS became the first African university to win the World University Football Championship after defeating Brazil’s Paulista University (UNIP) 2-1 in extra time on September 28, 2025, in Dalian, China.
The team’s homecoming on Sunday, October 5, drew fans, students, and dignitaries who thronged the airport to celebrate the milestone victory.
Plans are already underway for an official ceremony to honour the players and technical staff for their outstanding performance.
UDS is scheduled to present the trophy to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, October 7.
