Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed confidence that his Ghana U-17 side can overcome Ivory Coast in any future encounter.
The remarks come in the wake of Ghana’s narrow 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to the Ivorians in the final of the recently concluded WAFU B U-17 Championship in Yamoussoukro.
Earlier in the tournament, the Black Starlets had also suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ivory Coast during their second group game.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the former Asante Kotoko coach acknowledged football’s unpredictability but insisted that Ghana has the potential to triumph if the two sides meet again.
"Anytime we face Ivory Coast again, we will beat them. Sometimes in football, you cannot predict," Narteh Ogum said.
"We can study them well and beat them next time, and they can also study us and beat us again, but as a coach, I can confidently say we will beat Ivory Coast if we meet for the third time," he added.
Despite the loss in the final, the Black Starlets have secured qualification for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco next year.
