The Head Coach of Dreams FC, Abdul Karim Zito, says clubs on the African continent will begin to take the club seriously after booking a spot in the semi-final of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.
In his view, his side was clearly underestimated from the group stage to the quarter-final where they showed Stade Malien the exit.
“For the Malians, I think they underrated us. They looked at our position on the Ghana Premier League (GPL) table and the fact that it was our first participation.”
Dreams FC qualified on a 3-2 aggregate over Stade Malien after stunning the Malians with a 2-1 win in Bamako and drawing 1-1 in Ghana.
“I’m very happy for a young club like Dreams FC to qualify for the semi-finals. They’ll now take us serious but it’s late,” Zito remarked.
According to him, the qualification would propel them to fight harder because the players want to be in the final.
Dreams FC becomes the first Ghanaian club in 20 years to reach the semis of the CAF Confederation Cup, since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko did so back in 2005, in the maiden edition of the competition.
After a goalless first half, Stade Malien took the lead on the 60th minute mark through York Diaby to level the aggregate score.
Dreams fought back to level the score 10 minutes later through Sylvester Simba.
