Medeama returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nations FC at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.
After last weekend’s defeat to Karela United, the former champions were determined to respond, and they did so with a spirited display. Emmanuel Owusu opened the scoring in the first half, finishing off a well-worked move to give the home side the lead. Nations FC, however, found their rhythm after the break and equalised midway through the second half, setting up a tense finale.
Medeama had slightly less of the ball, with 47% possession compared to Nations’ 53%, but made better use of their opportunities. The hosts registered eight total shots, four of which were on target, while Nations FC managed nine shots with five troubling the goalkeeper. Medeama also created more danger from set-pieces, earning nine corners to Nations’ eight, though the visitors picked up two yellow cards in an increasingly physical contest.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 83rd minute when Salim Adams struck the winner, sparking relief and celebration among the home fans. The victory lifts Medeama to second place on the league table, just one point behind leaders Heart of Lions.
Medeama will now travel to Dormaa to face Aduana Stars, while Nations FC, winless in four matches, will hope to bounce back when they take on Hohoe United.
