Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has issued a clear and forceful directive to his team, declaring their upcoming Ghana Premier League fixture against Heart of Lions an absolute must-win game.
The statement sets a high-stakes tone for the Porcupine Warriors as they return to domestic action at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The match represents a classic top-of-the-table clash, pitting Kotoko against the current league leaders. While showing respect for a Heart of Lions side he described as "one of the best" in the competition, Zito left no room for ambiguity regarding his own team's objective.
"We've set our target to win the league, and they are part of those we are going to meet, so at all costs we should do our best to win this game," Zito stated emphatically in a pre-match briefing.
This demand for victory is part of a broader strategy to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued other Ghanaian clubs. Zito has pointedly used rivals Samartex and Nsoatreman as cautionary examples, noting how their continental campaigns led to a drop in domestic form.
He has therefore instructed his players to completely shift their focus from their recent CAF Confederation Cup success and concentrate solely on the challenge posed by Heart of Lions.
By framing the match as non-negotiable, Zito is not only targeting three points but also aiming to build the relentless momentum required for a serious title challenge.
