The head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has stated that he expects the team’s hard-fought 1-0 win against Berekum Chelsea to boost the confidence of his players heading into their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Kwara United.
As winners of last season’s MTN FA Cup, the Porcupine Warriors are set to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage.
In their first assignment, the Ghanaian giants will battle Kwara United from Nigeria.
Speaking in his post-match interview after Asante Kotoko defeated Berekum Chelsea on Saturday in the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, Coach Karim Zito said he expects the result to ginger his players ahead of the showdown with Kwara United.
“After a hard-fought football match, I have done justice to Kotoko. If you look at the way we played, we created a lot of chances. If we ended this game with a draw, I don’t think it would have been fair. So, I’m very happy with my boys. It will also ginger us for next week’s Confederation Cup game [against Kwara United] we are going to play in Accra,” the coach said.
The first leg of the tie between Asante Kotoko and Kwara United will be played on Sunday, September 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
