Board Member of Medeama SC, Dr Tony Aubynn, beleives that Ghana qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is extremely important and must therefore do everything possible to secure qualification.
The Black Stars, after eight matches played in the qualifiers, remain at the top of Group I with 19 points, with two games to wrap up the qualifiers.
After back-to-back wins in March, Ghana, after a frustrating draw against Chad, returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Dr Aubynn, a former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), said, “Black Stars qualifying [to the World Cup] is extremely important; it adds to our reputation as a football nation.
"Ghana is a football might in Africa, and the records showâ¦but I think qualifying is very important to us, and I think we must do everything to qualify,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will hope to seal their qualification for the Mundial, which is scheduled to be hosted in the USA, Mexico and Canada, when they take on Central African Republic and Comoros in the final round of games next month.
