Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed ongoing frustration with the Black Stars' inconsistent form, emphasising that the team's failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) remains a significant concernâeven as they lead their World Cup qualifying group.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Adams pointed to Ghana's recent performances, including a disappointing 1-1 draw against Chad, as evidence of unresolved issues within the squad.
"Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV," Adams stated, underscoring the sting of missing out on the continental tournament.
While the Black Stars currently top Group I in the World Cup qualifiers with 19 points, Adams stressed that qualification is not yet secured. "We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us," he cautioned.
The minister also called for improved tactical decision-making from head coach Otto Addo, noting, "If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement."
Adams acknowledged that Addo has taken responsibility for past errors but questioned how long the team can continue without demonstrating clear progress.
Ghana will conclude their World Cup qualifying campaign with matches against the Central African Republic (away) and Comoros (home) in October, needing four points to confirm their place at the 2026 tournament.
