Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed strong confidence in Ghana's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup while simultaneously raising serious doubts about head coach Otto Addo's capacity to lead the team at the global tournament.
In a candid interview with Wontumi Radio, the prominent politician acknowledged the Black Stars' strong position in Group I, where they currently hold a three-point lead with just two matches remaining.
"I'm sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup," Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated, pointing to the team's favorable standing in the qualification group.
However, the former parliamentarian quickly turned critical when discussing Otto Addo's leadership, suggesting the coach lacks the necessary qualities to guide Ghana effectively at the World Cup level.
"But Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament," he asserted, reflecting concerns shared by many fans about the team's inconsistent performances despite positive results.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu also provided analysis of Ghana's group opponents, identifying Mali as the strongest team in the qualification series while dismissing their chances of overtaking the Black Stars.
"I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group; unfortunately, they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure qualification," he noted.
With Ghana needing just one victory and a draw from their final two matches against Central African Republic (away) and Comoros (home) in October, the Black Stars appear poised to secure their World Cup place, even as questions persist about their readiness for the global stage under Addo's leadership.
