Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has accused Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen of feigning injury during Nigeria clash against Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup qualifications.
Osimhen, who secured a permanent move to the Turkish giants in the summer window sent a worrying signal to fans, leaving the pitch in the 35th minute due to an injury setback.
The former Napoli star was subsequently ruled out of Nigeria crucial clash against South Africa, where ended 1-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
For Gyan, Osimhen pretended to have sustained a serious injury just to save energy for club football as the Champions League looms.
According to the Ghana all-time topscorer, Osimhen will be fully fit and ready to play for Galatasaray in the upcoming games.
“I know these tricks. Someone told Osimhen: âLook, we spent a lot of money on you. The Champions League is coming up, and we’re not thrilled about you flying off to Africa for this international break. But go, play a little, lie down on the pitch, and pretend it’s serious. The next day you’ll already be back in Turkey. It’s just to avoid media noise”
“Trust me, you’ll see him fresh and running at full speed in the Turkish league and the Champions League, and no matter how many times he gets hit thereâhe won’t be lying on the ground. The doctors are in on it too. Euro is worth more than naira,” he said as quoted by Dailysports.net.
Nigeria now risk missing out on the 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico. With just two games to end the qualification series, the Super Eagles find themselves in the second spot with 11 points, six points behind leaders South Africa.
