Sarpsborg 08 sporting director Hampus Andersson has described new signing Michael Opoku as a player with the “x-factor” following the Danish youth international’s move from FC Lyngby.
The 20-year-old winger, who is of Ghanaian descent, joins the Norwegian Eliteserien side on a permanent deal, with his contract running until June 2028.
Sarpsborg believe his arrival will provide an immediate boost to their attacking options as they target a strong finish to the 2025/26 season.
“Michael is a player we’ve been following for a long time and have also watched live. He has many exciting qualities we value highly. He has the x-factor, being strong one-on-one, a good finisher, and possessing impressive physicality,” Andersson said.
Opoku, who can operate primarily on the left wing but is also capable in other attacking roles, scored four goals in 10 starts for Lyngby in the Danish Superliga last season.
Known for his dribbling ability, direct play, and composure in front of goal, he fits Sarpsborg’s model of investing in young, high-potential talents.
The Norwegian club view him as a key part of their long-term project, with Andersson confirming that Opoku had been their top replacement target after the sale of Sondre Ãrjasæter.
Despite his experience with Denmark’s youth teams, Opoku remains eligible to represent Ghana at senior level.
