Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Lawyer Samuel Sarfo Duku, has stressed the importance of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup tie against Nigeria’s Kwara United, describing it as a “very serious match.”
The Porcupine Warriors will host Kwara United in Kumasi between September 19 and 21, 2025, for the first leg of their preliminary round fixture, before travelling to Nigeria for the return encounter from September 26 to 28.
The draw was conducted on Saturday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Kotoko, led by head coach Karim Zito, have named a 26-man squad currently training in Cape Coast as part of their preseason preparations. Duku, speaking to Asempa FM, cautioned that Kwara United’s qualification signals significant investment in their squad.
“[Against Kwara] It is not a done deal for Asante Kotoko. We have to prepare very well so we don’t bring any embarrassment. They are our West African neighbours, so the stakes are high,” he said.
If Kotoko advance, they will meet Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the next round. Before then, the club will feature in the GHALCA Top Four tournament, kicking off on August 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
