Following the overwhelming success of last season’s CAF Champions League, which saw a significant rise in television viewership, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will stage the preliminary draw in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the first time ever.
The draw will take place on Saturday, 09 August, at 13h00 local time (10h00 GMT) and will be streamed live on CAF’s YouTube channel as well as via its broadcast partners.
Azam Media, CAF’s strategic partner in East Africa, will host the draw at its studios, continuing the trend of staging official draws in broadcast environments â as previously done with SuperSport and beIN Sports.
East Africa has recorded notable growth in cumulative viewership for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, prompting the move to Tanzania’s capital.
Saturday’s draw will officially usher in a new season of African club football, with the preliminary round set to kick off on 19 September 2025, followed by the second preliminary round on 17 October 2025.
The group stages of both competitions are scheduled to begin on 21 November 2025, with the knockout phase due to start on 13 March 2026.
