Accra, June 28, GNA - Mrs Linda Yaa Ampah has launched her book tittled, “Pieces of the Portrait” which throws light on the childhood sexual abuse she suffered at a tender age amidst tears.
The 13-Chapter books published by Education Logistics and launched by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, is an autobiography of the author, who has been a Judge for TV3’s Ghana Most Beautiful Beauty Pageant for the past 13 years.
The book forwarded by Justice Mrs Julia Sarkodie-Mensah, a Judge and Criminal Justice Expert narrates how the author suffered childhood sexual abuse and the debilitating effect it had on her.
The 144-page book also show how the author overcome the challenges associated with child sexual abuses and uses to help counsel young people who had suffered abuses one way or the other.
Justice Mrs Sarkodie-Mensah said the author talked vividly about things in the book that many people were unwilling to talk about in society.
She said in the book, the author made it clear how she was molested by a very close relative, which made it more debilitating, describing the author as brave.
The author, Mrs Ampah said she accepted Christ at the age eleven and that had it not been for Christ on her side at that age, she could not had overcome the trauma that came with the molestation.
“I was sexually abused at a very young age and the effect it had on my life growing up coupled with my mother’s death at a very tender age and how I have navigated my way through life changed my whole cause of life completely,” she narrated.
Mrs Ampah said: “Even as an adult at the age of 50 years, I still go through some of the challenges every now and then… we pray through it, we cry through it, and we pretend through it”.
She noted that the book is just a few pieces of the several things that had happened in her life over the years, adding that the other pieces would be added in later editions to continuously inspire hope for readers.
The author said sharing her story in the book was the small way to contribute to mitigating the poor manner society and parents handled victims of child sexual abuse, serving as a guide to dealing with such situations.
She said most parents and society at large were not well equipped to handle issues of child sexual abuse, making them to mistreat the victims which eventually lead them to lives of shuttered dreams and aspirations.
Mrs Angela Ofori-Atta, who has been a close friend to the Author for the past 26 years described Mrs Ampah as absolutely courageous for sharing her story.
She said child sexual abuse had become one of the difficult issues to deal with as a Clinical Psychologist because the ramifications are dire.
Mrs Ofori-Atta said there was a lot in the book that could be learnt to protect young girls and boys, making sure that our homes are safe for our children”.
