The joint 18th Ghana Premier Business and Finance Excellence Awards and 8th Ghana Business Leaders Excellence Awards Ceremony has been held at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra.
The Awards Ceremony was organised by Top Brass Ghana under the theme: “Business and Finance – Responding to the Challenges of Internal and External Pressures”.
The Chairman for the Awards Ceremony was Mr. Stephane Miezan, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) who is also the Vice-President of the Federation of West Africa Chambers of Commerce.
Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry who, due to unforeseen circumstances, could not attend the Awards Dinner, with her place taken by Nana Dr. Baa Wiredu, a former World Tourism Organisation Consultant.
Alluding to the Awards Scheme’s theme, Mr. Miezan, in his opening remarks, identified some of the key elements to be considered under internal pressures as financial management, operational inefficiencies and talent management while some of the factors under external pressures included economic uncertainties, regulatory changes and market competition.
Having regard to these internal and external pressures, the Chamber President recommended that businesses adopt the following measures: adopt a robust risk management framework, improve financial management systems, invest in the vision of their businesses and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
The scenario, he explained, will require that businesses adopt a proactive and strategic approach through the identification of the sources of the pressures with the view to developing effective responses. These measures, he observed, will help businesses navigate challenges and ensure long term sustainability.
In his address, Nana Dr. Baa Wiredu, commended the Awardees for their high quality work and service to Ghana which have brought them thus far.
He noted that the Ghanaian economy was undergoing rapid transformation. In the light of this, he urged businesses to adopt the use of technology and also master Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for business growth and competiveness.
To cope with the changing trends in the economy, Nana Dr. Baa Wiredu emphasised the need for businesses to tackle the challenges of development and leadership which must be internally driven.
He also called on businesses to be creative, proactive and appreciate the role of partnerships in ensuring sustainable growth.
According to Isaac Dakwa, Director of Top Brass Ghana, the Ghana Premier Business and Finance Excellence Awards Scheme has its origins in the Golden Jubilee Business and Finance Excellence Awards which Top Brass Ghana was mandated by the National Planning Committee to organise as part of the Programme of Activities in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Ghana’s Independence in 2007.
