


President John Dramani Mahama says government will in the 2025 cocoa marketing season, pay 70 per cent of the world market price to cocoa farmers to help improve on their living standards.
He said the move would be to reward the farmers for their hard work, saying, “The sweat of our cocoa farmers deserves dignity and a fair reward.”
He said this at Juaboso when he took his nationwide “Thank You Tour” to the Western North Region to express gratitude to the chiefs and people following his 2024 presidential election victory.
President Mahama said his administration was committed to supporting local farmers by providing them with the necessary skills and farm inputs, noting that, these efforts would create jobs and strengthen the “Feed Ghana and Made in Ghana” brands.
The President assured the chiefs and people of the Western North Region that his administration would also prioritise key projects, including the Dadieso-Akontombra roads, Sefwi-Bekwai-Asankragwa main road and other deplorable roads in the region.
“We are committed to not repairing them, but ensuring they meet modern standards to improve connectivity and economic activities across the region,” he said.
On education and healthcare, he indicated that plans were in place to build a new public university in the region and equip all the district hospitals to meet modern standards.
President Mahama promised to get the Juaboso Senior High School a new school bus as they requested on his arrival at the school.
On sports and recreation, he mentioned that the government would build six new stadia in the newly created regions including the Western North.
He also recognised the contributions of the religious bodies and the traditional rulers by praising their roles in maintaining peace and driving local development.
Nana Kofi Ahenkan II, the Chief of Sefwi Boizan and Kontihene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, commended the appointment of Western North Regional Minister, Health Minister, Chief Executive Officers, Board Members and other appointees who were sons and daughters of the region.
Mr. Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, on behalf of the people, thanked the President for his visit, and promised to lead the government’s reset agenda diligently bring progress in the region.
