The National Theatre has signed a partnership deal with the Accra City Hotel through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), to bridge the gap between the arts and the hospitality industry.
This is to promote Ghanaian culture both locally and internationally, with arts and cultural performances to thrill guests at the Hotel every week, with the aim of driving traffic to the sector.?
The partnership would see the National Theatre’s three resident groups, the National Drama Company, the National Dance Company and the National Symphony Orchestra, showcasing diverse performances that encapsulate the cultural essence of Ghana’s various regions.
The signing of the MoU was attended by the heads of the respective organisations, reflecting their commitment to deepening ties between Ghana’s hospitality and arts industries.??
Mr Henry Herbert Malm, the Acting Executive Director, National Theatre of Ghana, said the collaboration was primarily about “spreading our culture,” adding that the performances include culturally infused music, drama, and symphonic orchestra presentations designed to captivate guests.
The MoU, he noted, would provide the Accra City Hotel’s guests with unique in-house entertainment options and offer a taste of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage as mutual benefits.?
“At night, it’s not everyone who is able to step out and then have fun. So if you’re able to package something inside, it would be good. The relationship between the Ghana’s arts and hospitality sectors is interwoven and would attract more tourists to Ghana,” he said.
“We call on other interested parties to also collaborate with us. The National Theatre is ready to promote Ghanaian arts and culture and so the collaboration provides a vital platform to fulfil its core mandate of developing and promoting Ghana’s culture and arts.”
Mr Divine Matey, the General Manager, Accra City Hotel, said the National Theatre’s dynamic and audience-engaging performances would provide diverse entertainment for hotel guests, adding that the partnership was a long-term one.?
“It’s going into the foreseeable future. We acknowledge the National Theatre’s creativity in adapting to audience preferences and we believe the cultural performances would be spectacular,” he said.?
