The 2024/25 cohort of National Service Personnel (NSP) at CalBank has inaugurated a two-classroom block for the Asuom M.A. Basic School in the Ga South District of the Greater Accra Region.
The GH¢450,000 project, aimed at enhancing teaching and learning for the school’s more than 200 pupils, was funded through monthly contributions made by the service personnel. It also reflects CalBank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) focus on Education, Health and Philanthropy.
The new facility features the replacement of all blackboards with whiteboards and markers, as well as the installation of LED lighting and electrical switches in classrooms that previously had no electricity.
Speaking at the commissioning, CalBank’s Deputy Managing Director, Johnson Oware, commended the commitment of the 122 service personnel who made the project possible. “We at CalBank believe in raising responsible citizens. Beyond improving the lives of young students, this programme teaches our service personnel the value of giving back to society. I applaud their selflessness and urge teachers and pupils to maintain this facility for years to come,” he said.
He added that as an indigenous bank, CalBank takes pride in contributing to national development and instilling discipline, accountability and social responsibility in its National Service personnel. The initiative continues a legacy of service projects by CalBank’s NSP cohorts. In 2023/24, service personnel constructed a classroom block for the Sowah Dean Cluster of Schools at Ashaley Botwe.
The Headmistress of Asuom M.A. Basic School, Madam Yaa Kusi-Ameyaa, expressed gratitude to CalBank and the 2024/25 cohort, describing the project as “a priceless contribution” that will significantly improve the school’s learning environment.
Project consultant and contractor, Delali Adiamah, also lauded the initiative, noting that his company waived most charges in recognition of the sacrifice made by the service personnel. CalBank reaffirmed its commitment to championing sustainable community development, with education remaining at the heart of its corporate social investment agenda.
