In a strategic move to deepen collaboration and foster mutual understanding, the Ghana Statistical Association (GSA) recently paid a courtesy call on the management of the Business & Financial Times (B&FT), represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Godwin Acquaye and Henry Okyere, the Sales Manager.
The GSA delegation was led by its President, Prof. Saeed Bashiru, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University, alongside the General Secretary, Dr. Carine L. Malor. Other members of the delegation included Francis Yaw Daah, Deputy General Secretary, and Dr. Richard Berimah Twum, an Executive Member.
Dr. Acquaye welcomed the team and shared an overview of the history and success story of the B&FT brand.
He highlighted that the newspaper, which began publication in 1989, has grown into Africa’s leading provider of business information and remains the largest business newspaper in Ghana. He attributed this success to the hard work and dedication of the management and staff.
Dr. Acquaye further noted that B&FT has a strong digital presence across online platforms and social media and is also renowned for hosting prestigious events, including the Ghana Economic Forum (GEF).
He expressed appreciation for the visit and conveyed optimism that the two organizations could collaborate to make data more meaningful and impactful to the public.
In his remarks, Prof. Bashiru commended B&FT for its excellence in delivering credible business information across Ghana, Africa, and globally.
He emphasised that the visit aimed to strengthen partnerships and collaborations between statisticians, data scientists, and the newspaper. The goal, he said, is to explore joint initiatives that will benefit both organizations while amplifying the critical role of statistics in driving national development.
Prof. Bashiru noted that in today’s interconnected world, no single entity can remain a monopoly of expertise.
The General Secretary, Dr. Malor, announced that the Annual National Statistics Conference organized by GSA will be held at Koforidua Technical University from October 28 to November 1, 2025 on the theme: ‘Statistical Perspectives on the SDGs: Measuring Progress, Informing Policy, Shaping the Future’.
Dr. Malor extended an invitation to B&FT to attend the conference and explore opportunities to serve as a media partner for both the event and future GSA initiatives.
The discussions concluded with both organizations expressing their commitment to strengthening mutual understanding and building impactful partnerships.
It was agreed that they would collaborate to enhance public understanding of statistics by promoting high-quality, reliable data to inform decision-making at all levels. Additionally, both parties agreed to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide future collaborations.
