Lucy Banini, a pioneer of the Ghanaian disc jockeying scene, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the 2023 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
Powered by Smirnoff, the yearly awards recognise DJs and individuals who have made major contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.
Ghana’s first female DJ, began her career in music at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), where she established the groundwork for a career that would inspire future generations.
Her relentless drive and passion for music have not only broken down gender barriers, but have also greatly helped in the expansion of Ghana’s DJing landscape.
Lucy was a trailblazer during her time and was recognised for paving the way for future Ghanaian DJs.
Receiving her award, she said, “I am truly honoured and humbled to receive the lifetime achievement award. The recognition is not just for me but for every aspiring DJ, especially the women who dare to dream big. It’s a testament to the power of passion, hard work and breaking barriers.”
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is an annual ceremony designed to recognise and honour disc jockeys and people who have influenced electronic dance music in Ghana.
This year’s edition of the awards crowned TMSK DJ as Female DJ of the Year and DJ Spices as the two-time Young DJ of the Year.
The show had performances from Shatta Wale and other amazing performers and artistes.
