Brace for more rains; we’re entering the peak of rainfall season- GMet cautions

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has cautioned the general public to take precautionary measures as more rains are expected in June 2025.

Frederick Cudjoe, a meteorologist with the Central Analysis and Forecast Office of GMet explained that from the month of May, the country is gradually entering the peak of the rainfall season, hence frequent rains is expected especially within the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, May 19, 2025, he disclosed that per the predictions of the Agency for this year’s raining season, 405 to 675.1 mm of rainfall is expected between April to June this year with more rains expected in the Eastern part of the country.

Frederick Cudjoe urged authorities and residents to begin undertaking precautionary measures like desilting gutters and clearing structures in water ways.

“And then April, May, June also we are anticipating a sum of 405 to 675.1 mm so looking at these values comparing to our long-term rainfall values that we have had for the past 30 years, we are anticipating more rains right from the Eastern coast.

“So we advised that even as we are gradually entering to the peak of the rainfall season, places that are very prone to floods, we start taking precautionary measures especially desilting of gutters and also areas where we have structures in waterways, with the authorities, I hope that in the coming days, they will help with demolition of those structures because we are expecting more rains especially in Greater Accra,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, will commence a major decongestion exercise in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) today, Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

This initiative aims to restore order and significantly improve sanitation across the city.

The operation will initially target key areas surrounding the AMA Head Office, including Kinbu Road stretching to Railways, the zone from ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and the bustling Opera Square extending towards Adabraka.
